Webinars Any Ideas

I’m in the process of upgrading the LPI website.  One thought is to offer some free webinars on topics related to workforce development, talent management or knowledge management.  I’m really interested in any ones ideas on what topics they think would be best or any good ways to market those webinars.  In many next several posts, I’ll be describing some of the ideas that I have.

I’m also looking at expanding my LinkedIn account.  Anyone want an invitation from me.

I see a lot of blogs that are very heavy text often just one long paragraph.  While content is king, you have to do something to attract and keep people’s attention. 

Here’s a couple of things I’ve done to try an make my site more readable. 

  1. I start with an idea and then go look for a picture that expresses the idea.  In this post, I just wanted a picture to grab your attention.  Nothing like a dog with three balls in his month.
  2. Then I try to get across my point in a series of very short paragraphs.
  3. I try to keep my post to something that you can read in just a few minutes.  If I have more to say, I can always write another post.  Also if you exhaust a topic, what are you going to write about tomorrow.
  4. Keep to your theme but don’t be too predictable.  This blog is about learning so I always try to connect it in some way, but the range of topics is fairly broad.
  5. I also prefer a narrative style so it sounds like I’m having a conversation with the reader.

 I’ve seen this technique growing over the years.  The surefire way to reduce customer complaints is to make it impossible to complain.  I first experienced this on an international flight.  When everyone got off the plane, there was no one there. 

Just the other day I called a company about a small problem and they put me in the cue.  The recorded message said, all I’d have to do is wait 30 to 60 minutes for the next agent.

There are others where the only place you can get information is on their website, but if it’s not there it just keeps recycling you back to the home page.

What’s nice about this approach is you can show upper management a proven reduction in customer complaints.  “We must be doing something right.  Nobody’s complaining.”
